Checked in with my life on Twitter and remembered this blog.
Interesting that two years later the themes of music and children are still very much with me. And progress has been made, imagine that.
In anticipation of studying Spanish for 3 weeks at the Spanish Institute of Puebla I have been listening to singer-songwriters to tune my ear. Of course I should be memorizing verb tenses but guess the hard work will begin when I get to Mexico. My most favorite of all is Julieta Venegas, including this wonderful song "Limon y Sal" on youtube. Am working on translating my own songs into Spanish and also playing a song "Puntos y Rayas" which we used to sing in the Berkeley-Oakland Women's Chorus. Here's a wonderful version done by Soledad Bravo.
As for the little ones - got my name in the files of Bananas for babysitting in my home and the first call I got was a foster parent looking for someone to watch a 5-week old baby. Since I am going to Mexico soon I couldn't help him out but will stay in touch. A 5-week old baby, ah gee whiz, bring it on. I've also begun helping out my friend who is teaching guitar in an after school program called Guitars not Guns. Early days for me but I left those 3-5th graders with a song in my heart. And many of them are Spanish speakers so we'll be doing songs in Spanish. Ah, my most favorite worlds are intersecting, how wonderful.
